Burn-Out, Core Self-Evaluation, and Social Support as Predictors of Entrepreneurial Resilience Among Small-Scale Entrepreneurs of UNIUYO Campuses

Abstract

Entrepreneurial resilience is critical for the sustainability of small-scale businesses.

This cross-sectional study investigated burn-out, core self-evaluation and social support as predictors of entrepreneurial resilience among small-scale entrepreneurs

within University of Uyo campuses. The participants comprised of Two hundred and twentysix

(226) small-scale entrepreneurs made up of 178 (78.8%) males and 48 (21.2%) females

operating within University of Uyo campuses. The participants were selected using the

purposive sampling technique. The Maslach Burn-out Inventory, Core Self-Evaluation Scale,

Social Support-Friends and Family Scale, and Entrepreneurial Resilience Scale were the

instruments used for data collection. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive

statistics and hierarchical multiple regression with the aid of SPSS version 26. Results

revealed that burn-out did not significantly predict entrepreneurial resilience, while core selfevaluation

(â = -.341, t = 5.49; P < .05) and social support (â = -.164, t = .426; t = 2.635, P < .05)

positively predicted entrepreneurial resilience. It was concluded that fostering strong selfevaluation

skills and cultivating robust support networks are critical strategies for enhancing

the resilience of small-scale entrepreneurs, especially within the university environment.
