The current food inflation in Nigeria and the hike in prices of things have resulted in many people feeling sad, experiencing life difficulties, and this is termed depression. The case is not different for civil servants because they are on a fixed income irrespective of any increase in the cost of goods. Studies identified negative work outcomes such as work participation, loss of productivity, and so on as factors influencing depression.
Hence, this study investigated psychological distress and self-efficacy as predictors of depression among civil servants. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design to systematically select 191 Oyo state civil servants comprising 110 females and 81 males with ages ranging between 28 and 58 years that responded to standardized scales of psychological distress (á = .75), self-efficacy (á = .85), and depression (á = .92).
