The University seeks highly skilled, innovative, and motivated Back-End Software Developers to join its software development team. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure backend applications.

Required Qualifications and Skills

1. A Bachelor’s degree or Higher Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Strong programming experience in Java.
3. Strong practical experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
4. Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design.
5. Strong experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs.
6. Practical knowledge of JWT authentication and authorization.
7. Good understanding of Spring Security.
8. Knowledge of JPA/Hibernate or other ORM technologies.
9. Good understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and clean-code practices.
10. Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab and collaborative software development workflows.
11. Good understanding of API security, data validation, exception handling, and error management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
2. Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for integration with web and mobile applications.
3. Design, develop, and optimise databases using PostgreSQL.
4. Implement secure authentication and authorization using JWT and role-based access control.
5. Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code.
6. Integrate third-party services and external APIs.
7. Perform database optimisation, query tuning, and data modelling.
8. Conduct unit and integration testing to ensure application reliability.
9. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and production issues.
10. Collaborate with front-end developers, database administrators, DevOps engineers, and other team members.
11. Participate in code reviews and contribute to software architecture and technical decisions.
12. Ensure applications comply with appropriate security, performance, and software development standards.

Additional Experience (Added Advantage)

Microservices architecture, Docker and containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, AWS or other cloud platforms, Redis or other caching technologies, Message brokers (RabbitMQ/Kafka), Automated testing using JUnit/Mockito, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and experience developing large-scale enterprise or university management systems.

The University seeks talented, creative, and highly motivated Front-End Software Developers to join its software development team. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for designing and developing modern, responsive, and high-performance web and mobile applications, with strong emphasis on React, Next.js, TypeScript, mobile application development, and API integration.

Required Qualifications and Skills

1. A Bachelor’s degree or Higher Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Strong practical experience with React.js.
3. Strong knowledge of Next.js and modern React development practices.
4. Proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
5. Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design.
6. Experience consuming and integrating RESTful APIs.
7. Good understanding of JSON, HTTP methods, API authentication, and error handling.
8. Practical experience with mobile application development, preferably React Native.
9. Good understanding of front-end application architecture and component-based development.
10. Experience with Git and collaborative software development workflows.
11. Good understanding of browser compatibility, performance optimisation, and web security.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and develop modern, responsive, and user-friendly web applications using React.js and Next.js.
2. Develop robust and maintainable applications using TypeScript.
3. Build reusable UI components and scalable front-end architectures.
4. Develop and maintain mobile applications using suitable technologies such as React Native.
5. Consume and integrate RESTful APIs and other backend services.
6. Work closely with backend developers to integrate APIs and ensure seamless data exchange.
7. Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, including integration with JWT-based APIs.
8. Optimise applications for performance, scalability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
9. Translate UI/UX designs and requirements into functional and interactive applications.
10. Manage application state using appropriate tools and frameworks.
11. Implement form validation, error handling, loading states, and user feedback mechanisms.
12. Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve front-end and mobile application issues.
13. Write clean, reusable, well-structured, and maintainable code.
14. Participate in code reviews and contribute to software architecture and development standards.
15. Use Git/GitHub/GitLab for version control and collaborative development.
16. Collaborate with UI/UX designers, backend developers, database administrators, DevOps engineers, and other team members.

Additional Experience (Added Advantage)

React Native and mobile application deployment, Progressive Web Apps (PWA), State management (Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query/TanStack Query), Tailwind CSS, Material UI, Next.js SSR/SSG/Server Components, Firebase services, Mobile publishing (Play Store & App Store), Docker, CI/CD pipelines, AWS, and enterprise/university management systems experience.

Conditions of Service

The appointment is a career-progression appointment, and the person so appointed shall remain in office until the statutory retirement age of 65 years, subject to the provisions of the relevant laws, statutes, and regulations of the University, or may be removed from office on grounds of ill health, misconduct, or other conditions as may be prescribed.

The other terms and conditions of service are similar to those obtainable in public universities in Nigeria, consistent with the Statutes of the University and as may be determined by the University Council from time to time.
