Submission Guidelines, Editorial Procedures, and Peer Review Process for the Journal of Economic & Social Research (JESR)

Scope and Call for Papers

The Journal of Economic & Social Research (JESR) publishes scholarly articles on economic and social issues with a focus on Africa. It welcomes policy-oriented research from academics, researchers, NGOs, and independent scholars. Submissions should advance the understanding of economic and societal dynamics within African contexts.

Submission Requirements

• Manuscripts should be prepared in single-spacing, typewritten on A4 paper, and should not exceed 15 pages, including references.

• Each article must include an abstract of no more than 200 words, summarizing the paper’s key contributions. Keywords should follow the abstract to aid in indexing and categorization.

• Referencing should adhere to the American Psychological Association (APA) format.

• Authors should submit either two hard copies or a digital copy of their manuscript. A processing fee of N5,000 applies at the submission stage, payable to the designated JESR account (Account Name: Benue Journal of Economic and Social Research; Account Number: 2063950614; Bank: UBA Plc).

Peer Review and Editorial Process

JESR uses a double-blind peer review process to maintain the integrity and quality of published research. Once a manuscript is submitted, it undergoes an initial assessment by the editorial team to ensure it meets the journal's scope and quality standards. Qualified reviewers with subject-matter expertise are then selected to evaluate the submission. Reviewers must be from institutions different from those of the authors and should not have collaborated with the authors in the last three years to avoid conflicts of interest. Manuscripts accepted by the reviewers are then returned to the authors with feedback, either recommending revisions or approving them for publication. Authors are expected to submit a final, corrected version along with a publication fee of N20,000.

Editorial Oversight and Decision-Making

The JESR editorial team, comprising an Editor and two Co-Editors, oversees the entire review process. The Editor assigns each submission based on topic relevance, Co-Editor expertise, workload balance, and conflict-of-interest considerations. The assigned Co-Editor manages the review process, liaising with reviewers and, if necessary, consulting a second Co-Editor to reach a consensus on complex cases. Accepted articles are published under the journal's copyright.

Ethics, Appeals, and Misconduct

JESR is committed to upholding research integrity and addressing any ethical concerns pre- and post-publication. Allegations of research misconduct are rigorously investigated, with whistleblower identities kept confidential. If necessary, the journal reserves the right to issue corrections, retractions, or revisions. Appeals and complaints are reviewed by the editorial team to ensure fair consideration.

Submission Process and Contact Information
